Myla Ann Greenberg Musicant
February 9, 1938 - June 26, 2013

With her four beloved children by her side, Myla Musicant passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, June 26th. Myla is survived by her children: Sheryl Stewart (Jeff), David (Catherine), Scott (Carrie) and Andrea Musicant Huot (Peter) and 10 grandchildren: Brett, Alex, Madeline, Josh, Natalie, Zach, Bailey, Jake, Gabrielle and Michael and her sister, Carol Colodny (Ben). She is predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Michael E. Musicant, M.D.

Myla was born in Chicago, Illinois to Annette (Hirschfield) and Morris Bailey Greenberg. Along with her sisters Carol and Susie, Myla loved her childhood in Hyde Park and liked to tell stories about her nanny, Irene, and how fun it was to grow up with three girls and a doting father.

Like her mother, Myla was passionate about reading, politics and education. She was always up on current events and loved learning new things. Insatiably curious, Myla enjoyed travel and would tour each new city tirelessly, never wanting to miss a thing.

Mike and Myla met at UC Berkeley from which they both graduated. After marrying in 1959, they lived in Myla's favorite city, San Francisco. Mike was in medical school and Myla loved working as an elementary school teacher in Chinatown.

After moving to San Diego in 1968, she was active as a Girl Scout leader, League of Women Voters member and small business owner. Later, she worked as a convention center guide. She was a generous donor to the many causes in San Diego close to her heart including: ADL, Jewish Federation and the San Diego Zoo. Throughout her life Myla took immense pride in being an excellent mother. Always available with help, advice or just to listen, she was completely dedicated to her family and found her greatest pleasure in her children and grandchildren until the end.

As strikingly beautiful as she was on the outside, Myla will be best remembered and greatly missed for her steady wisdom, deep intellect and her loyalty to family and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 28th at Temple Emanuel-el in Del Cerro. In lieu of flowers, tributes in her memory can be made to the Grossmont Hospital Foundation.
