Obituary for Judith M Silverman (Jastromb)

Judith M Silverman (Jastromb)
Judith Mindelle Silverman
11/21/1945-05/30/2013
Judy Silverman, 67, passed away peacefully at her La Jolla home surrounded by her loving family. She put up an incredible and inspirational fight against a rare and aggressive lymphoma, surprising her family, doctors, and nurses with her strength and will.
Judy was born in Chicago, IL to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Jastromb. She attended the University of Arizona where she majored in education and fell in love with her husband, Dr. H. Arthur Silverman. The Silvermans moved to La Jolla in 1972 where Judy worked as a librarian and educator at several schools including Torrey Pines Elementary School, The Jewish Academy, and Del Mar Pines Elementary School. She finished her career at her beloved Francis Parker School. Over the years, she changed the lives of both students and the teachers. Her dedication and compassion were unparalleled.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Silverman; four children, Rachel, Deborah, Sam, and Sarah; her sons-in-law John and Matt; daughter-in-law Ginger; and four grandchildren, Hannah, William, Cody, and Maggie; her brother, Joel and his family; plus six grand-dogs. Judy loved to read, cook, and travel, and spent her summer and winter vacations in Sun Valley, Idaho with her family.
She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and students.
A service will be held Sunday, June 2nd, at 3p.m. at El Camino Memorial Sorrento Valley.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Scripps Health Foundation: Scripps Clinic GME, The UC San Diego Foundation UCSD Cancer Research Facility, Jewish Family Service of San Diego, and Francis Parker School are appreciated.
