Evan Mead Stone
Evan Mead Stone, 68, of Del Mar, passed away of lung cancer on June 4, 2016 at home surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jill Rosenfeld Stone, children Elizabeth Stone Nirenberg (Jud), Adam Stone (Jordan Fenlon), grandson Emmet Nirenberg; and by his mother Florence Stone, brother Rick Stone (Meg), siblings Nancy, Hank, Jim and Peggy Rosenfeld, niece Michelle Miller (Eric), nephews Ben and Harrison Rosenfeld; and motherinlaw, Dulcie Rosenfeld. He is preceded in death by his father Samuel Stone, sister Leslie Peltan, and fatherinlaw Norman Rosenfeld. He is also survived by his Aunt Margie Krasnick (William, z’’l), Aunt Nannette Lobel (Martin, z’’l), many cousins and more friends than he could count. His family expresses gratitude for Dr. Lyudmila Bazhenova ("Dr. Baz"), Nurse Jenn Dvorak, and other UCSD Moores Cancer Center health care professionals.
Born and raised in Easton, PA, by Samuel and Florence Stone, he attended Easton Area High School. His next stop was Lafayette College. At the University of Michigan, he studied law and met Jill Rosenfeld. They married in 1972 in Detroit, where he was a Good Humor Man and held other jobs until passing the Michigan Bar in 1973. After he passed the California Bar in 1974, Evan and Jill moved to San Diego. In 1976 with their first child Elizabeth Dee, the family moved to Del Mar. He started in private practice with Gaston, Hyatt & Stone, later Hyatt & Stone, and then joined Kolodny & Pressman. Since 2000 he was Senior Vice President of Legal Services and partner at Pacific Medical Buildings, LLC.
A brilliant lawyer, writer, speaker, avid reader, history buff, and Michigan fan, E van was f orever devoted to his family, especially helping his children have every opportunity by championing their causes, including serving as a National Trustee of the Foundation Fighting Blindness and a cofounder of Project TALK. Equally committed to his community, he was a founding member of Congregation Beth Am and served on the boards of the United Jewish Federation of San Diego, San Diego Hebrew Homes, and Seacrest Foundation.
