Kenneth Abraham Steckel
October 11, 1945 - April 3, 2016
Kenneth tried his hardest for two years to stick around with us, but he ultimately succumbed to small cell lung cancer. Kenneth was born and raised in San Diego. Following a youthful tour of duty in the Army he spent the majority of his working life doing plumbing and home remodeling. As a husband, father, son, brother, friend and neighbor Kenneth was always there to offer hands- on- help, and share his considerable knowledge of construction and repairs. He could fix or build virtually anything. However, his generosity with his time and resources knew no limitations. Although soft-spoken and modest, he also had a wonderful sense of humor, and easily made friends with people from diverse backgrounds and careers. His sense of humor never failed him even at the end.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 39 years, Meredith, son Barry Schwarz (Lalaine), Stepson Seth Friedman ( Christine) and five grandchildren. There will be a graveside funeral service at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, (2122 on April 13, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Kenneth's name to Sharp Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
