Bob Abrams passed away at home surrounded by his beloved wife, his wonderful dog Clementine, and his cat and spirit animal Lily, on March 3, 2021, following a four-year battle with colorectal cancer. He was born in Manhattan, New York, and the family soon moved to Scarsdale, New York, where he grew up. Childhood summers were spent sailing on Long Island Sound, the lakes of New Hampshire and off the South Coast of Spain, and he had a lifelong love of the water. He attended Quaker Ridge School and Scarsdale High School, followed by the University of Pennsylvania. While an undergraduate at Penn, Bob was designated a University Scholar. Bob excelled in the sciences and went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude with a major in Biophysics and a minor in English, before attending the University of Pennsylvania Medical School.
Combining his medical background and talent for writing, he went into Medical Advertising, rising to become Creative Director in several major medical agencies before starting his own firm, Auricle Communications. Bob met his future wife in Manhattan and following the events of 9/11, they relocated from Greenwich Village to La Jolla. He loved the magical coastal village from the very start, as well as his many friends there, and was saddened that the pandemic prevented him from visiting with them on a daily basis.
A voracious reader and keen observer of human behavior, his insight into people and life was matched by a boundless capacity to revel in their beauty. He devoted his later years to meditation and deepening his exploration of and understanding of the Universe and the Human Condition.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Rhonda Berger. The family asks that in lieu of flowers please make donations to the Rancho Coastal Humane Society or the FACE Foundation to support animals in need.
