Obituary for Pearl Abrams (Gross)

Pearl Abrams passed away on May 24, 2022, due to complications of Alzheimer’s
Disease. She was 95 years old.
Pearl was born September 22, 1927, in New York City. Her parents, Jack and Eva
Gross, were Jewish immigrants from Kamianets-Podilskyi in western Ukraine.
Pearl and her much loved older sister, Annette, grew up working in their parents’
grocery store.
Pearl met her future husband, David, on a blind she was 20. They were engaged
after a six-week courtship, and their marriage lasted 56 years, until David’s death
in 2003. The couple made their first home in Brooklyn, N.Y., where their two sons,
Steven and Michael, were born. The family later moved to Massapequa Park on
Long Island, where Pearl worked as a bookkeeper and lavished her “boys” with
love, affection, and wonderful cooking.
Later in life, the couple relocated to San Diego to be closer to their son Michael,
daughter-in-law Brae, and granddaughters Adelaine (Addie) and Sophia (Sophie).
They became active members of the San Diego Jewish community and
congregation, Tifereth Israel.
Pearl enjoyed yoga, lunches with friends, and daily walks around Lake Murray.
Above all else, Pearl treasured time spent with her family. When asked what gift
she wanted to mark special occasions, her answer never varied: “Nothing. You are
my gift.” Pearl, and her blessed memory, was the best gift of all.
