Obituary for Jean A Galan (Jackson)

Jean Galan: Mummy, Mama, Grama, friend. Whatever Jean was called, she was a rock for everyone around her. She was her generations foundation on which the Galan family, her children and grandchildren built their lives.

Jean was born in Singapore to a Welsh father and English mother. Her father died when she was three. As a young child was sent to live with her grandparents in Jamaica. As a child and teen, she also spent time in Canada and Venezuela.

Back in Jamaica, at 17 she met Sam and their life-long love story began. Three years later, on March 6, 1960 they married. Deborah was born that December and Christine a year and a half later and their family was formed.

Sam and Jean ran several successful businesses. In 1969, working shoulder to shoulder with Sam she was a constant driver to successes. For their manufacturing and distributor company in Jamaica, she ran a very successful sales and marking team for 10 years. As a result of political turmoil, Sam and Jean uprooted the family and moved to San Diego. In 1984 together started another successful business.

When Christine became seriously ill with an autoimmune disease in 1998, Mummy took control of all the subsequent healthcare teams that would produce 36 years of medical miracles in her daughter’s life.

Jean believed in, and lived a life full of family, work, love, and fun. You know if you have ever been to one of her parties. She built a strong family and group of friends. With loving memories, we build on her life.

She will be forever in our hearts.
