GERALD JOSEPH YAKATAN died December 23, 2022 in Del Mar, California. Jerry is
survived by his wife of 58 years, Una (nee Gittleman), his daughter Nicole (Steven
Hamberg), his son Brook (Ellie), grandchildren Gus and Abria Hamberg, and his
sister Beverly Y Cohen (Jim Walsh). He is also survived by his sister-in-law Debra
Lyman, several cousins, nieces and nephews, colleagues, and friends.
Born May 20, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Bella and Nathan Yakatan, Jerry
graduated from Central High School (212 class), earned his BS and MS from
Temple University School of Pharmacy and his PhD from the University of Florida.
He was first a professor at the University of Texas School of Pharmacy and then
enjoyed a long career in pharmaceutical research and drug development for a
number of companies both in the United States and China. Burial services will be
at Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego, CA, with shiva to follow at the family
home in Del Mar, CA. Contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of
the donor’s choice, Technion (Israel Institute of Technology) or to any
organization supporting Israel.
