Obituary for Carol Goodman
1936-2019

Carol Goodman has passed away following a long illness. She is survived by her husband Mort Goodman and daughters Susan Zale, Linda Zale (Ward Jewell) and Cyndi Menegaz (Alex) and their children Dina Steinlauf, Natasha Marcuse, Daniel and Jonah Menegaz. Carol was proud to count Mort’s children Debra Parrish (Dr. Mark) and Rik Goodman (Diana) and their children and grandchildren as theirs. She is also survived by her sister in law Esther Fischer.

Raised in Los Angeles, 12-year old Carol moved to San Diego with her parents Sam and Diana Fischer and her older brother Bud (Esther) Fischer in 1948. She graduated from Hoover High School in 1954 and attended USC. Following the sudden passing of her father, Carol returned to San Diego where she met and married Albert Zale.

Professionally, Carol found her calling as successful travel agent who ultimately specialized in high-end cruises. Her husband Mort at first assisted, then took over her travel business following their retirement. They traveled together all over the world several times.

Carol tirelessly served her community through her philanthropic work as a Board Member with the Women’s Auxillary of Children’s Hospital San Diego and Words Alive, a literacy program for at-risk teens and young children. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her book club as well as being a savvy member of her women’s Investment Club.

Highly competitive, Carol was an expert when it came to games such as Scrabble, Bridge, Canasta, Ma Jong and Gin Rummy.

An enthusiastic lover of gardens and flowers, Carol raised beautiful roses, dahlias and peonies in each of her homes in San Carlos, Del Cerro and Carlsbad. Her heart was large; filled with love, kindness, and generosity.

Carol will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
