The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Erin Simmons can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

Harold Kudler, M.D.

Erin volunteered to co-lead the Painting a Moving Train program with me back in 2008 when our mutual friend and colleague, Cmdr. Charles Keith Springle, deployed to Iraq. The purpose of our program was to teach community medical and mental health providers something useful about military culture and about the possible effects of deployment stress on Service Members, Veterans and their families. Keith was killed in Iraq in May 2009 and Erin took up the cause for the next several years. Together with Bob Goodale of the Citizen Soldier Support Program, we gave countless presentations across North Carolina and around the country. Over time, our training has been taken by well over 30,000 clinicians. It was characteristic of Erin that she shared her life and her professional knowledge and skills with others in ways that enriched them and their families. She has made a tremendous difference in the lives of others. I learned so much from her and I hope to keep spreading her message. I was proud to have her as my friend.
