Life Story for Morris M Kuritsky

Morris Murray Kuritsky died peacefully at the Care Center of the Vi at La Jolla Village in San Diego, California at the age 97.

Murray is survived by his wife of 71 years, Flora Dubin Kuritsky; Helene Rashkow of Phoenix, Arizona; Sheila Hamilton of Buffalo Grove, Illionis; Lloyd Kuritsky of San Diego, Calfornia. He is preceded in death by Charles and Ida Kuritsky of Jamaica, New York; and his sister Anne Kimball of Silver Spring, Maryland and his brother Albert Kass of Fairlawn, New Jersey.

He was a loving grandfather to 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Murray was born on June 14, 1920, in Brooklyn, New York to Ida and Charles Kuritsky. He graduated in 1943 from The City College of New York with a bachelor of science degree. Further, he received a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University in New York in 1946. He married Flora Dubin on January 14, 1947. After moving to Manhattan, Murray began working for Ferrand Optical. Over the next 7 years, they welcomed 3 children into their home. His children remember him as a driven and organized father who stressed the value of education.

In 1945, he joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in July, 1946.

Murray was an avid reader of books and magazine articles regarding current events. During retirement, he was an active member of the Rancho Bernado World Affairs Council. He was a dedicated member of Ner Tamid synagogue in Poway, California, at one point serving as its president.

A graveside funeral is scheduled for 11:00am on Friday, June 1st, 2018, at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road. A reception will follow that the Vi at La Jolla Village, their former home, located at 8515 Coste Verde Blvd. Complimentary valet parking will be provided.

Rabbi Nadav Caine will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Murray’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The United Jewish Federation of San Diego.
