Gayle Eileen Bloom (nee Pearlman), age 73, of Encinitas and Vista, California, and formerly of Knoxville, Tennessee, Columbus, Ohio, and Riverside, California, passed away January 9, 2018. Gayle was born August 8, 1944 in Columbus, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Joseph and Ruth (Ziskind) Pearlman. Gayle grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she received her teaching degree. She was a committed and beloved Hebrew teacher for over 30 years at various synagogues in several cities. She was known for her engaging style, integrating puppetry and Hebrew music, which she composed. She wrote hundreds of children’s Hebrew songs with the hope that her students would always be inspired to learn more about their heritage. Gayle is survived by her children, Sherri Katz Wexler and Deborah Katz Ditter, sons-in-law Kevin Wexler and Michael Ditter, grandchildren Talia and Jason Wexler and Hayley and Katie Ditter, all of San Diego, and a brother, Michael Pearlman, of Atlanta. A graveside service was held on January 11, 2018 at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego. Shiva was observed at the home of Sherri and Kevin Wexler, 1518 Martingale Court, Carlsbad, CA. Contributions in Gayle’s memory may be directed to Temple Solel’s Shir Chadash program at www.templesolel.net or to Hadassah.
